Dr. Robert Rissman

Neuroscience

Robert Rissman’s science research focuses on novel biomarker discovery and experimental neuropathology in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and preclinical animal models. In addition to his basic science research program, he also serves as the Director for several cores at UCSD and neighboring USC campus.

He is the Founding Director of UCSD’s Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS) Biomarker Core and USC’s Alzheimer’s Therapeutic Research Institute (ATRI) in San Diego, and Alzheimer’s Clinical Trials Consortium (ACTC) which serve AD clinical trials. He is also the Director of UCSD’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (ADRC) Neuropathology and Biomarker Cores and the UCSD ADRC Brain Bank.

He serves as PI at the VA San Diego where his lab is focused on understanding how central corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) neuromodulatory pathways interplay with peripheral stress signaling and contributes to neuronal vulnerability and AD neuropathology using in vivo pharmacology in transgenic animal models and human biospecimens.

Dr. Brian Datnow

Pathologist

Dr. Brian Datnow is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School. Following internships in Internal Medicine and Surgery, he completed a residency in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology at the Brigham Hospital (Harvard Medical School) in Boston, MA. and is board certified by the American Board of Pathology.

After 20 years in private practice, he was recruited to the pathology department at the University of California, San Diego. He served as director of the residency program and as interim director of Anatomic Pathology. He attained the level of full professor and recently retired from UCSD with the title of Professor Emeritus.

He has been associated with PrecisionMed since March 2021.

Eric is passionate about supporting PrecisionMed’s customers in their efforts to fuel innovation. He is excited everyday by the fact that PrecisionMed’s products and services actively contribute to medical and scientific breakthroughs that improve lives.

Prior to joining PrecisionMed, Eric spent a decade in finance at Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan. He advised management teams and boards of directors on strategic matters, capital structure, and mergers and acquisitions within the healthcare and technology industries.

Eric holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a B.S. in Strategic Management from Brigham Young University.

Eric is originally from Southern California and is an Eagle Scout. He has a passion for live music and all things surf- and ocean-related. Eric most values time with his family, where he and his wife are the proud parents of four young and very spirited children.

Anthony cares deeply about PrecisionMed’s mission to fuel pharma and biotech innovations that improve lives. Anthony, like so many others, knows dear friends and loved ones coping with debilitating conditions.

Prior to joining PrecisionMed, Anthony served in the United States Air Force through the rank of Captain. He has led diverse teams to execute high-pressure missions to improve our military readiness.

Anthony holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an M.S. from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and a B.S. from Yale University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer.

An Eagle Scout and the proud son of a career NYPD police officer and an NYPD nurse, Anthony was raised in a blue-collar town on the South Shore of Long Island, NY. He recalls 9/11 well. In the aftermath of the tragedy, he witnessed his community come together under the leadership of local business owners, who provided desperately needed goods and services. He has sought to emulate this dedication to community in his own life. To Anthony, friends are family and family are friends.

Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Flax is Chief Operating Officer of PrecisionMed, Inc.

Over the past 20 years he has held senior and executive level positions in major European corporations in Operations, Human Resources and Legal Services.

For 9 years, he was a Senior Vice-President of a publicly traded British retailer where he was responsible for Worldwide Operations, Human Resources and Labor Law matters.

He was previously, for 7 years, General Counsel and Head of Human Resources for a London based office equipment manufacturer and distributor.

Mr. Flax is a Law Graduate of the University of Cape Town and formerly practiced as an Attorney of the Supreme Court of South Africa, specializing in corporate transactions and labor law.

Dr. John Flax,

Founder & Chief Medical Officer

Prior to joining PrecisionMed, Inc. as its President and founder, Dr. Flax worked in the pharmaceutical industry in both the United States and United Kingdom.

Dr. Flax has 15 years experience in clinical drug development as director of cardiovascular development at Pfizer, Warner Lambert and Beecham (UK).

His experience includes designing and managing clinical research programs as well as extensive FDA experience including prosecuting new drug applications.

Dr. Flax, while maintaining his position at PrecisionMed, has consulted for numerous US and European pharmaceutical companies and has represented them at FDA.

Apart from the development of FDA submissions and regular FDA interactions, Dr. Flax has conducted several successful FDA Advisory committee meetings.

Dr. Flax was trained in cardiology at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, UK, and holds a MB, ChB from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and membership of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP(UK)).

Tia Hexom, PhD.

Vice President of Cell Therapy

Tia is a highly accomplished science and medical research professional with 19 years of experience specializing in cell and molecular biology, particularly in neuroscience and immunology. She obtained her Ph.D. from Tulane University and conducted groundbreaking postdoctoral work at UCSD, where she utilized patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) as an in vitro disease model for Alzheimer's research.

With nearly a decade of industry expertise in cell therapy, Tia has played a pivotal role in supporting scientists worldwide in launching therapeutic drugs. She brings new capabilities and strategies to biotech companies, having built multiple cutting-edge laboratories and GMP manufacturing facilities. Additionally, she has facilitated technical transfers for the development, commercialization, and post-launch support of multi-million-dollar products utilized in diagnostics and cell and gene therapy workflows globally.

Tia's unwavering passion for cell therapy and dedication to mentoring aspiring scientists demonstrate her commitment to elevating the standard of care for patients around the world.

Kristin is a driven professional with a strong background in molecular and cellular biology and chemistry. Before joining PrecisionMed, Kristin honed her expertise in both big and small pharma, dedicating countless hours at the bench to further research efforts. This hands-on experience allowed her to develop a deep understanding of the industry. Leveraging her education and scientific knowledge, Kristin transitioned into pivotal roles as a project manager and operations director, effectively supporting pre-clinical and clinical studies.

Kristin holds a Molecular and Cellular Biology and Chemistry degree from the University of Arizona and has earned certificates in Clinical Trial Design and Management from UC San Diego. She is also a Certified Clinical Professional through ACRP. Passionate about making a difference, Kristin is excited to contribute to PrecisionMed's mission of supporting the research community and improving lives.
